The separatist forces in Canet de Mar are on the hunt for a family that has asked for the application of the Supreme Court ruling

It all started with a notice on the social network Twitter from the account El Turó en Catalá: “We inform you that our school has been denounced by a P5A family and as a result the TSJC has ruled that the teaching hours in this class must be 50% in Spanish.” The school in question is Turó del Drac (Dragon Hill) in the Barcelona town of Canet de Mar.

First of all, it is not even true that the High Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC) has ruled that half of the teaching hours must be taught in Spanish. In fact, there is an instruction that 25% of the teaching hours must be taught in Spanish, but the separatists who control this school (like so many others) have raised a hue and cry. And not only that. After spreading the family’s audacity on social networks, they have pounced on it.

The procedure is simple. The constitutionalist organisation Sociedad Civil Catalana describes it in the following steps:

  1. The school spreads on social networks the request of these parents.
  2. They ask to apartheid the family.
  3. They ask for the student to be left alone in class. They ask to be left alone in the Spanish class.
  4. They ask for the names and addresses of the family.

This is a well-known story in Catalonia, which explains, among other things, why the Catalan Minister of Education, the radical Josep Gonzàlez-Cambray (ERC) boasts that only eighty families have taken legal action against immersion and indoctrination in Catalan schools.

And what they are trying to do now is to prevent a cascade effect, that more families like the one in Canet de Mar ask for the execution of the Supreme Court’s sentence. To do this, nothing better than a campaign of harassment, threats and “proposals” such as practising “apartheid” against the family and leaving the child alone in class when it is time for Spanish. Some other tweeters ask for the family’s address and details.

The Plataforma per la Llengua and the CUP have already begun to hand out slogans: “Not one step back”, “Catalan is not to be touched”. The eve of the protest called by the Generalitat for 18 December is heating up.

Meanwhile, the Association for a Bilingual School (AEB) assures that the harassed family is fine, “comforted” by some positive comments on social networks.
