1492The Catholic Kings sign the 'Edict of Granada', the decree of expulsion of the Jews.
1493Martín Alonso Pinzón dies; navigator, Spanish explorer and co-discoverer of America. He sailed with Columbus on his first voyage as captain of La Pinta.
1561Captain Juan Maldonado, together with 35 people, soldiers and civilians, founded San Cristóbal (Venezuela).
1591Spanish optician Benito Daza de Valdés is born. He is considered one of the forerunners of modern ophthalmology.
1621Felipe III dies in Madrid. He will be succeeded by Felipe IV, the Planet King.
1678Carlos II issues a Royal Decree adopting the coat of arms of the city of Medellín (Colombia).
