1525The Sevillian adelantado Rodrigo de Bastidas founds the village of Santa Marta, in present-day Colombia.
1773The Santa Marta Earthquakes destroy the colonial city of Antigua Guatemala killing around 500 people.
1804The yellow fever epidemic begins in Malaga (Spain), causing the death of 11,464 people.
1886Launch of the Spanish warship "Destructor", designed by the sailor Fernando Villaamil, which served as a model for all the navies of the world.
