1526Spanish explorer Toribio Alonso de Salazar discovers the island of San Bartolomé or Taongui in the Pacific Ocean, which is part of the Caroline Islands (today the Marshall Islands).
1559The Primate Archbishop of Toledo, Bartolomé de Carranza, is arrested by the Inquisition on charges of heresy.
1567The Duke of Alba, at the head of 10,000 veterans of the tercios, completes El Camino Español, arriving in Brussels after a march of 1,100 kilometres that began in Milan.
1646Jesuit missionaries Jerónimo de la Canal and Ignacio Molarja founded the city of Arizpe, Mexico, in New Spain.
