1534The city of Huamantla is founded in New Spain in the province of Tlaxcala, under the name of San Luis Huamantla.
1634The brilliant Luca Giordano is born in Naples. After growing up in the shadow of José de Ribera, he became the foremost painter of his time.
1748France, England and the Dutch United Provinces sign the Treaty of Aix-la-Chapelle, ending the War of the Austrian Succession. Spain obtains the Duchy of Parma, Piacenza and Guastalla for Prince Felipe.
1850Pablo Iglesias Pose, founder of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) and the General Workers' Union (UGT), is born in Ferrol.
1929In Canada, a new law enacts that women are persons. Until then they were not legally recognised as such.
