1160Leonor of England (d. 1214) is born in Domfront, Normandy. Daughter of Henry II and sister of Richard I "The Lionheart". She was to become one of the greatest queens of Castile through her marriage to Alfonso VIII.
1493Columbus sets sail from El Hierro for his second voyage with 17 ships. He will reach the West Indies and the Desired Islands on 3 November and Hispaniola on 28 November.
1688The Spanish Baroque sculptor Pedro de Mena dies in Malaga. He was the main master of sculpture at Toledo Cathedral.
1843Isabel II ratifies the unification of all flags in Spain. The naval flag of 1785, of Carlos III, becomes the national flag of Spain, something that makes it unique in the world, as most of them come from royal or land dynasties.
1843The national flag of Spain, as we know it today, is established by a decree of Isabel II extending the use of the flag chosen for the Spanish Navy in 1785 by Carlos  III.
