1488Reconquista: the Marquis of Cadiz manages to get Vera (Almeria) to surrender to the Christian army without resistance.
1555The French Protestant pirate Jacques de Sores assaults the town of Havana (Cuba). For a month he sacks and burns every house and kills its occupants.
1810Peninsula War: the troops under the command of General Régis Barthélemy Mouton-Duvernet set fire to the village of Almazán, due to the tenacious resistance within its walls by 1600 men under the command of the Spanish guerrilla fighter Jerónimo Merino.
1821The United States takes possession of Florida, purchased from Spain.
1877The town of Mayagüez in Puerto Rico is formally granted the city status by the Spanish crown.
