1170Alfonso VIII of Castile and Alfonso II of Aragon signed the Treaty of Sahagún, know as the Perpetual Peace of Sahagún.
1514Diego Velázquez de Cuellar founded the city of Sancti Spíritus, Cuba.
1536The conquistador Diego de Almagro arrived in Chile. His expedition had left Cuzco on 3rd July 1535.
1574Luis de Fuentes y Vargas founded the city of Tupiza (Bolivia) in the viceroyalty of Peru.
1624Spanish Franciscans founded the village of Soriano, Uruguay, with the name of Santo Domingo Soriano.
1741The word "manzanilla" appears for the first time in Spain in reference to the wines of Sanlúcar de Barrameda.
1830Venezuelan general Antonio José de Sucre was assassinated in Arboleda (Colombia).
