1252Alfonso X, known as the Wise, was proclaimed King of Castile and León.
1533Pedro Heredia founded the city of Cartagena de Indias (Colombia), under the name of Cartagena de Poniente (Cartagena of the West).
1572Jerónimo de Silva founded the city of Huancayo in Peru, under the name of Santísima Trinidad de Huancayo.
1778A group of people from Malaga, mostly from Alhaurín de la Torre, led by Francisco Bouligny, set sail on the brigantine San José for New Orleans, where they founded the city of New Iberia.
1851Isaac Peral y Caballero (d. 1895), engineer and inventor of the submarine, was born in Cartagena (Spain).
1952Ration cards are abolished in Spain after the Civil War.
