Bolivia and Chile sign the second boundary treaty, which replaces the one signed in 1866. Chile renounces the territories in the area between the 24th and 25th parallels. In exchange, the Bolivian government agrees not to increase taxes on saltpetre for the next 25 years, i.e. until 1899.
